Lineage was designed by Debbie Rhodes and Allison Baumken. The quilt came first; the pattern was drawn from the maker’s own notes, cutting plans and layout, and then checked against them square by square.

Debbie sewed the original Lineage: every row, every seam pressed open, from her own cutting plan. The pattern is a reconstruction of that quilt from her notes, and she is the one who answers when a question is a quilting question.

Allison Baumken

Co-designer and shop owner

The original went on Allison’s son’s bed, and that is where QLT started: a quilt worth turning into a pattern other people could make. She runs the shop, the colourways and Colour Lab.

Striking rather than safe.

Every colourway is taken off something real — a rug, a painting, a palette card — and then run against the quilt’s own seam map, pair by pair, weighted by how much seam length each pair actually shares. That is how a palette that looks lovely as six squares but loses a tenth of its piecing gets caught before it is published.
