Colour story
Where this came from.
Two images supplied by the founder: a five-swatch card — Cambridge Blue, Khaki, Fawn, Redwood and Almond, each with a printed hex — and a four-chip label graphic naming a cool anthracite ("modern & refined") beside a mocca and a dark brown, with no hex on it.
SAMPLED for five of six from the first card; printed values confirmed against the pixels within 2-4 points of lightness. The sixth, the anthracite, is sampled from the second image, which prints no hex. Assigned by scoring every arrangement against this quilt's seam shares.
Where each colour came from
-
Fabric A
#F5DFC5printed on the card as Almond. Lightest, so it takes the ground at 50.2%. -
Fabric B
#A4624Dprinted on the card as Redwood. Darkest of the five, so it takes fabric B, at 18.2%. -
Fabric C
#5A5651NOT ON THE FIRST CARD. Sampled from the second image's "Anthrazit" chip, which prints no hex — the true dark the first card does not have; without it the redwood is asked to do two jobs. -
Fabric D
#A1B5A8printed on the card as Cambridge Blue — the one cool note. -
Fabric E
#DFA677printed on the card as Fawn. Fabric E and fabric F swapped, 2026-10-12, the founder's own call — contrast-neutral either way (re-scored: identical 2.85%), so a free choice. -
Fabric F
#C8B093printed on the card as Khaki. See fawn's own note on the swap.
What it does to the seams
Checked against all 14 fabric pairs weighted by how much seam length each actually shares in this quilt. 2.85% of the seam length falls below 1.25 contrast: the khaki against the fawn at 1.02, on 1.67% of seams, and the Cambridge blue against the fawn, also 1.02, on 1.18% — three warm-to-cool mid-tones sitting within a single point of lightness of each other, which is the trap this method exists to catch. Small enough not to change the read. Lightness range 53, one dark.

- Shapes
- E-F carries 1.67% of the quilt's seams at contrast 1.02 — those seams will not read.
- D-F carries 1.18% of the quilt's seams at contrast 1.04 — those seams will not read.
Contrast is measured on screen colours, not on fabric. It tells you where the piecing will disappear, not which bolt to buy.
